The Mirror Stage has also a significant symbolic dimension. The Symbolic order is present in the figure of the adult who is carrying the infant: the moment after the subject has jubilantly assumed his image as his own, he turns his head toward this adult who represents the big Other, as if to call on him to ratify this image.- Jacques Lacan, "Tenth Seminar, "L'angoisse", (1962–1963)
Nice title. And I love the Zizek quote at the bottom. I can see why you like him.
ReplyDeleteCome on fj. Say something. I miss arguing with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE Zizek fan. As far as "method" goes, I've learned a lot from him, and FINALLY have a paradigm that helps me understand post-modernism.
ReplyDeleteNow what to DO about it... that's another matter entirely. ;)
ps - I can't argue with you unless you say something I can disagree with... so here's your chance. ;)
ReplyDeleteI like him too, if I can only get past his tics.
ReplyDeleteLet's see....what can we argue about? Jung v Freud? Nah, done that. Men v women? Played out. Politics? Boring.
ReplyDeleteArt! Music! Books!
ReplyDeleteSuffering, God, faith, evil, will....or...gardening.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to do a post for you to "complain" about. I'll see if I can't dream up a "controversial" art or music subject... but it'll have to wait for morning... as I'm totally "burnt" at the moment.
ReplyDeleteNo worries. Just wanted to visit.
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteWhat me worry?
